My Blog

With every new project that comes into my life, I feel newly aware just how fortunate I am to work with some of the best singers and instrumentalists all over the world. Returning recently from a whirlwind trip to China, where the music, dance, and culture of Inner Mongolia was presented to me and my colleagues in grand fashion, I can still feel the rush and excitement of experiencing the country's indigenous music from literally a few feet away (instead of on YouTube!). Although often presented by amateurs, the quality and professionalism of these performers was nothing less than astounding. The Ethnic Orchestra of Hohhot was especially impressive, featuring an entire string section of the morin khuur, aka the horsehead fiddle. More about this and why I was there in the near future ... A particularly breathtaking – and quite challenging – part of the trip was the chilling fact that when my colleagues and I were in Hulun Buir, the temperature was minus 37°F, with a wind-chill factor of minus 63°! A personal "lowest temperature ever" for all of us! (See select photos)

Christmas Stays The Same

The long awaited follow-up to Linda's critically acclaimed "Christmas Stays the Same" will be released on Monday, October 14, 2013 and be sold exclusively on Linda's website as well as at CD signings following most of her U.S. based concerts from November 1st until the end of December.

Long-time collaborator and friend Kim Scharnberg contributed several arrangements to this album. The twelve track CD contains two new original songs: "Christmas Where You Are" (music and lyrics by Linda Eder) and "Silence of Snow" (music by Frank Wildhorn and lyrics by Linda Eder). Also on the album are six fan-selected tracks, including a re-interpreted version of "Baby, It's Cold Outside." Eder fans from across the globe voted, through social media, on the Christmas songs they most wanted to hear Linda sing.

“I waited thirteen years to make my second Christmas CD. Some familiar faces came back to help me create this music as well as some wonderful musicians that I have come to know and work with over the last several years”, said Linda. “Christmas is meant to be a special time when we remember what is important in life and the people who are dearest to our ...   Read more...

Broadway World- "News of this production's new, trimmed down orchestrations are no cause for alarm: the arrangements fit the production with every jaunty note. As re-orchestrated by Kim Scharnberg, Jerry Herman's score sounds just as bubbly and brassy as ever..."

MD Theatre Guide- "Of course none of this success would have been possible if it weren't for the memorable songs by Jerry Herman, the terrific musical direction by James Moore, and the new orchestrations created for this production by Kim Scharnberg."

Baltimore Sun- "Much to be said, too, for the fresh orchestrations by Kim Scharnberg, who, using eight players (expertly led by James Moore) evokes a vintage ragtime ensemble- fully appropriate for the time period of the action and well-suited to Herman's score."
